Season defining week lies ahead for the Eagles

After just two wins in all competitions from the last thirteen games, it is hardly surprising to visibly see the unrest and concern amongst the fanbase about the current situation at the club.

A 5-0 away humbling to Arsenal sparked protests from the Holmesdale Fanatics and other supporters in the ground, with banners criticising the vision and ambition of the board.

Having also been dumped out of the FA Cup in the third round, which has happened four times in the last five years, against Everton in a replay, Hodgson will be more than aware that his tenure at the club could well soon be up if results do not improve.

With tomorrow evenings game against bottom-of-the-league Sheffield United, followed by a crucial tie against rivals Brighton on Saturday, it is a season-defining week on the pitch.

However, it is also a huge week off the pitch, with the January transfer window coming to its penultimate stage. The transfer window closes on Thursday 1st of February, and with Palace yet to confirm any new players, there is still major work to be done by the board.

Despite there being no official announcement yet, Hodgson confirmed in his press conference today confirmed that Genk’s Daniel Muñoz is very close to being announced.

He stated: "We think he'll be good. We are hopeful we'll be able to announce his signing very soon. He's over here. He's been having medicals."

Yes, you heard that correctly; we are signing a right back!

There will be some Palace fans (myself included) who never thought we would see the day, however, attacking full back Muñoz looks set to bolster our side in a most welcome addition to the squad.

Another name that has been heavily linked with Palace is Blackburn’s Adam Wharton. Rovers rejected an £18.5m bid for the English midfielder last Thursday.

It is rumoured we are preparing a new offer for the 19-year-old; however, I cannot realistically see us spending more than that on a young player with no Premier League experience – as the player is supposed to be a direct replacement of the injured Cheick Doucoure.

Parish stated in December that we would be looking to bring in predominantly loan players in the January window, and I see that still being the case.

A massive game awaits Palace at Selhurst tomorrow evening, with three points being a necessity. It then remains to be seen what the board has planned before the Thursday deadline.
